This list of processes standardises the complex and varied way in which they were named in 19th Century exhibition catalogues.
The main processes are largely self-evident, but the various sub-sets were named to reflect changes in procedure, formulae or substrate, often taking the name of the person responsible for the modification.
The named process most often refers to that used for making the negative, but not exclusively so. A significant number of entries (4734) were left blank and these appear as "Not Listed".
