Full title: Figs. 4 and 5. Photographs of the solar spectrum after having submitted it to the absorbing action of sulphate of quinine. The only rays which this substance allows to pass are those below the violet; limiting the photographic action in the case of iodide of silver (fig. 4) to a narrow band around G, about the centre of the indigo; and in the case of bromide of silver (fig. 5) to the upper portion of the green, the blue and indigo rays.
